We’ve always been more than a little besotted by Belmond, the LVMH-owned dreamland of hotels, safaris, river cruises and trains, including the Venice Simplon-Orient Express, a gleaming Art Deco-style train that wends through Europe. But at Christmas, Belmond becomes even more spellbinding—conjuring just the sort of fairy-dusted magic we need on the darkest days of the year. (We’re adding their five course Christmas Lunch, held in a 1920s wood-paneled train that rolls from London’s Victoria Station to Kent and back again, to our Absoluuutely-Must-Do list, and not just because it includes a champagne reception and copious petits fours.)

To indulge in a bit of much-needed Belmond sparkle from the comfort of your sofa, visit their Instagram page December 17th at 1 pm EST, when event designer Fiona Leahy—who has worked with Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney—will walk you through how to make British Christmas crackers, that age-old tabletop pull-apart present that snaps, crackles, and pops when it opens to reveal teensy gifts and jokes within. The more crackers the merrier this year, honestly…we’ve earned it !
