Book Now: A Lookalike Of That Dreaaamy Cottage from The Holiday
A few years ago, my husband and I were spending Christmas together in Iceland when we got stuck in our horse lodge due to a....snurricane. That's right: a snurricane. (!!) There was nothing to do but cuddle up, listen to the wind howl, and watch movies. And there was one movie so transportive that we actually watched it twice in 36 hours: The Holiday. The 2006 film by Queen of Comfort Cinema Nancy Meyers starred Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and some dude named Jude.
The best part was unequivocally the cottage: a cozy stone-walled English country home inspired by Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary with exposed beams, perfectly faded chintz fabrics, and a flickering fire. That particular house doesn’t actually exist—it was made for Hollywood—but soon you’ll be able to stay in its doppelgänger without even hopping the pond. Design guru Lucy Small of State & Season is currently building a hygge-inducing, three-bedroom rental house in Gilmer County, Georgia, for stays beginning October 1, 2023 (cue your next leaf-peeping trip), starting at just $290 a night. She’s recreating a centuries-old British cottage as authentically as possible—while keeping things up to modern-day code—by importing European materials and dotting the house with wood-burning fireplaces, British pottery, Christmas decor and cozy exposed-beam ceilings aplenty.
